Upper Mead

Upper Mead is a purpose-built care home based in the heart of Henfield, West Sussex, providing residential, nursing and dementia care for older people. With rooms arranged around a courtyard garden, the home is a peaceful and safe setting for the people we support.

Upper Mead provide care for people over 65 as well as providing specialist dementia care. Upper Mead has built and maintained great relationships with other businesses and services in the village, and through these the home is able to hold many wonderful events, raffles and host seasonal activities.

Philosophy

Our aim is to provide a care home that offers a safe, comfortable environment with support and stimulation to help people maximise their potential physically, intellectually, emotionally, and socially. The people we support have the right to live as fulfilled and independent a life as possible and to have the respect of those who support them.

A friendly and homely atmosphere at Upper Mead ensures that individuals are able to continue their lifestyle with personal privacy and dignity. The peace and tranquillity of our lovely home and garden are enjoyed by everyone, and people can be confident in the high standard of care provided.

Care and Support

We provide care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, by qualified staff under the personal supervision of the Registered Manager, Deputy Manager and Registered Nurses. Nursing care is available 24 hours a day. Local GPs visit the home regularly and are on call at all times.

Activities

The activities programme is one of the most important aspects of life at Upper Mead. A huge range of activities are undertaken by people living at Upper Mead, including arts and crafts, quizzes, reminiscence sessions, music and movement, bingo and sing-a-longs. The key aims of the programme are provision of mental stimulation, continuation of hobbies and interests and prolonging mobility.

Catering

Our experienced chefs and kitchen staff prepare a variety of home-cooked dishes, paying special attention to individual requirements and any special diets. Mealtimes are an important social interlude at Upper Mead and great care is taken to ensure that meals are attractively presented and elegantly served.

Training

All staff undertake an induction programme when joining SHC. In addition, a system of supervision and support for care staff enables them to gain experience and increase their skills. Extensive in-house training is provided by the SHC Training Academy, and QCF courses are undertaken in conjunction with local colleges.
